I live in Castle Douglas – a rural town in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland.
It’s a beautiful region with a hugely varied landscape – everything from beaches to mountains to lochs to forests to waterfalls to ruined castles – all on my doorstep.
It’s also an area full of creatives – artists, writers, musicians, and makers of all kinds who call this corner of Scotland, home.
It’s easy to be inspired by both the people and the landscape – and I am!
But what truly drives me is a love for making people feel good about themselves – my goal is to ensure you leave the photo session feeling better about who you are than when you arrived.
You can see this how theme runs throughout the different kinds of photography I do – whether it’s staging cinematic scenes where you get to be the heroine or hero of your own fantasy, or helping you past your insecurities and fears of how you are going to look in front of the camera, or working with you to target the clients your business requires.
There is no such thing as an ordinary person – and repetitive, generic photography packages rarely suit anyone. So getting to know you as a unique individual, couple, or even business, is crucial to tailoring photography to your specific needs.
This approach also spills over into my live video podcast on YouTube – Understanding Photography with Kim Ayres – where every week I demonstrate tips and techniques on photography and editing, give insights behind the scenes of photo shoots, set challenges, give feedback on submitted images, and viewers can join in the live chat, leave comments and ask questions.
I also give regular talks to community organisations and camera clubs, and run mentoring sessions for individuals and groups.
And I have a free newsletter on Substack for anyone interested in behind the scenes info, keeping up to date with the podcasts, and any forthcoming workshops or events.
